Visual Arts

View the world through the eyes of Sauk Valley’s artists

The Next Picture Show’s colorful exterior is no match for the local original artwork on its interior walls. Every six weeks (give or take), the gallery presents new art exhibitions on the main gallery walls, with the very front window wall hosting featured artist members’ work. Currently, TNPS has 100 artist members.

“I’m always amazed at the talent that can be found in Dixon, the Sauk Valley, and beyond. I know I can always go to The Next Picture Show to discover and enjoy new works of art.”

Located in a renovated 1854 building in historic downtown Dixon, The Next Picture Show fine arts center is a place where art is created, shown, studied, and celebrated.

  • This gallery is open Tuesday thru Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • There is no admission to step in and view the art.
  • Every art exhibition opening is also free to the public. These openings/artist receptions are held on designated Friday evenings, 6-8 p.m. A cash bar of beer, wine, and water is available at that time. The award presentations generally start at 7 p.m. — always a fun and informative part of the evening!

Artist Opportunities

There are various opportunities for both our regional artists and from beyond. Besides the juried art exhibitions every six weeks, artists also can become TNPS Artist Members and TNPS Featured Artist Members. In order to share our artists’ works beyond TNPS, several Dixon businesses are collaborating by hanging art exhibitions on their walls. This allows more art to be seen by more people.
