The 74th Phidian Art Show

The Phidian Art Club of Dixon, Illinois, presents the 74th Phidian Art Show for 2023. This is the second year TNPS has hosted this popular art event. The show puts local artists’ work in the spotlight. Awards are given in various categories, including American and regional scenes, nature, best floral, landscape, oil, watercolor, and pen and ink entries.

NEW DATE for Opening night and awards reception

The Phidian Art Show’s award reception, originally scheduled for Mar. 31, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 4, from 6-8 p.m. in the main gallery of TNPS. The awards program begins at 7 p.m. Due to tornado-like weather and multiple weather warnings, the opening reception had to be canceled.

UPDATE: The rescheduled reception on Apr. 4 was ALSO canceled due to another bad weather situation. This time we did not reschedule.

The show remains on display until April 22. The original artwork and awards presentation exhibit takes place in our main gallery on the first floor during gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Here comes the judge.

This year’s judge is Mary Jo Schuneman. She graduated from Illinois State University with a B.S. and M.S. in art education. As an art specialist, Shuneman’s students have varied in age from preschool to adults over her 25 years of teaching art in public schools. She is currently teaching art at Woodlawn Arts Academy in Sterling, IL.

Peoples Choice Award

The public can vote for a People’s Choice Award for their favorite entry. Visitors to the gallery can cast their ballot at TNPS at any time during the exhibition. The People’s Choice award will be announced at the end of the show’s duration.

This annual event was started in 1947 by the Phidian Art Club, a group formed in 1890 to promote art, literature, and music.

Registration dates:
Monday through Wednesday, Mar. 27-29, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. To make the registration go smoothly, be sure to download the entry form below and have your information filled out and taped to the back of each art piece. The volunteers at registration will help with any questions you may have.
